We know Kongzi travel so many place try to convince different governors to buy in his idea . So he’s “try harder “ Laozi let the nature decide so they are totally two different kinds of approach. No right and wrong answer depends on the timing and what kind of government. I do think Kongzi learn a lot from Laozi and feel thats may not work for government. But both has good idea for us to use nowadays in business management and leadership.
I'm under the assumption that Confucius may have found something worthy of his study in the pages of the DDJ. It's important to remember, though, that Confucius focused mostly on governance and social role, advocating for a strict system of higher and lower positions based on age or political position. He cared about governance, and perhaps his quip only illustrates his focused, myopic lens for viewing the world. That, or it is the slight brought on by co-opting or misappropriating the DDJ for something it positions itself mostly against. Maybe we can consider it similar to the relationship between Idealism and Materialism or other competing, apparently dualistic or dialectic strands of thought.
Thank you, it must be stressed first that I am neither a scholar nor a sage, just a guy having fun. You raise an interesting point - I am unaware of statements about Laozi or the DDJ that are known to originate from Confucius. This and others I have come across are spread by Daoists like Zhuangzi. They certainly take Confucius to task for seeing society narrowly. I feel I see more and more how opposite, really opposed, these two sides are on the question of organizing society. It is a fascinating and fun subject.🙏
saying that Laozi may not have been a real person ( and its a widely held view these days that the DDJ was written as a collective, or over time by many) is not the same as saying that this never happened. "This" happened. And people have been talking about it for centuries - even carving incredibly beautiful gold lettering as in your other post.
And you can find a lot of interesting things in a Chinese park, 5A or otherwise. and on the internet. I mean, I found this page! :)
I suppose I should write about what I think really happened and by who, but I change all the time! I take your points. 🙂 I do think “someone” wrote the first Daodejing, which has then been edited, added to, and changed by many, but we can still peer through to the original pieces with some insight and a lot of effort. This is a rather recent realization on my part. I have a two-year running series on the Daodejing on Medium, it is where I started writing.
LOL Emaline, I believe they both would by the end of this debate 😂 I imagine they didn't really like each other, and meeting today after all that's happened, they really wouldn't be happy.

I do appreciate Confucius’s “begin from where we are” attitude to making progress. 🙏

it’s an age old rivalry that may or may not have seen any correspondence between the two, if Laozi was even a real person!
That view never fails to be shocking to casual readers. How could this never have happened???😄

Confuscious seems to be hiding his middle finger, lest we think he'd use it.
